Welcome to the Greenhow’s Family Web. Whether you were a Greenhow, are now, will be, or are just related to one, this site is for you. I have come to learn much about the sur-name Greenhow. Within this surname, which originally came from "green-hill", are many important people.

John Greenhow who in the mid 1700’s settled in Williamsburg, Virginia became famous for his general store. His ship named the Robert, frequently traveled up river selling and trading. His store is amongst the many restored businesses in colonial Williamsburg.

Another famous Greenhow was Rose O’Neal Greenhow. She married Dr. Robert Greenhow in 1835, who was related to John of Williamsburg, mentioned above. After becoming a widow, she became interested in politics. When the Civil War broke out, she began sharing Union secrets with Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard, which he credits helping him win the battle of Bull Run. She is also credited with assisting the Confederate Army in winning other battles. (Picture of Rose) (Biography of Rose) Rose went on to travel in Europe where she published 4 books about her experiences.

As with many families, the history is rich. Join me in learning, sharing, and recognizing the Greenhow Family. My name is Kyle Greenhow and I manage both Greenhows.net and Greenhows.cc! If you have any suggestions or comments, or would like to advertise on these pages, please click on Contacts.

Come in and explore. Inside you will find: various Greenhow’s family history, various pictures of Greenhows, free email addresses (anyname@greenhows.net), free web space for personal pages, links to Greenhow’s email addresses and favorite web sites, a forum for a guest book and Q&A, and more as I have time to add it!
